Ubuntu 22.04 LTS – Jammy Jellyfish – Release



Finally here: Canonical has released Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, code name Jammy Jellyfish, on April 22, 2022. Alongside the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS desktop, other variants were also released, including:

  • Ubuntu Server
  • Ubuntu Cloud Images
  • Lubuntu
  • Kubuntu
  • Ubuntu Budgie
  • Ubuntu Kylin
  • Ubuntu MATE
  • Ubuntu Studio
  • Xubuntu
Ubuntu 22.04 will be supported with application and security updates for 5 years, until 2027.

What's new? From the Ubuntu release notes, the key updates are:

  • Using kernel 5.17
  • OpenSSL3.0 and systemd v249.11
  • Security improvements
  • Gnome 42
  • Supporting 10 theme color choices for dark and light modes
  • Built-in applications: Firefox 99, LibreOffice 7.3, Thunderbird 91
