Asahi Linux – Linux for Apple Devices?

Asahi Linux was still in the alpha stage when this article was released. So if you're interested in using Linux on Apple products, you might need to be patient for a bit, as the alpha version has many bugs and can't be used daily.

According to the Asahi Linux website, here's what's required:

  • M1, M1 Pro, or M1 Max machine (excluding Mac Studio)
  • macOS 12.3 or newer, logged in as an admin user
  • Approximately 53GB of free disk space (Desktop install)
  • Stable internet connection
  • The installer requires roughly 700MB ~ 4GB of data, depending on the OS package you choose.

More details can be found at https://asahilinux.org/2022/03/asahi-linux-alpha-release/.

A live demo hacking Apple M1 GPU Part One was on April 9, 2022 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4D0Lwq08UI.

Even though it's still in alpha, at least there's a Linux version for Apple products. There's hope for Mac owners to use Linux on their devices.
