Time to Upgrade Pop!_OS 22.04

Pop! OS 22.04 LTS rilis selang beberapa hari setelah Ubuntu 22.04 LTS rilis.

What's new in Pop!_OS 22.04?

Pop! _OS is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with kernel 5.16.19 at release (updates as new kernels are available) and uses Gnome 42 with System76 COSMIC UX, typical for Pop! OS. Additionally, it uses Mesa 22 and fixes HiDPI display layouts.

Sadly, an interesting feature didn't make it into the Pop! OS update, like accent color options (click here to see the display).

Updates include:

  • System76 scheduler:
Optimizes resource use, focusing on the main windows or active applications.
  • Pop! Shop updates and improvements:
    • More responsive.
    • Additional columns in the app list.
    • Buttons at the bottom also function as a progress bar.
    • Added three sections in the Pop! Shop dashboard: Pop! Picks, Recently Updated, and apps by category.
  • Uses PipeWire for audio processing:
No longer uses Pulse Audio. Tweaks for Pulse Audio may not be useful.
  • Other updates:
    • Better multi-monitor support.
    • Fixed HiDPI display layout.
    • Gnome 42 with System76 COSMIC UX.
    • Mesa 22.
    • Improved CPU scaling governor for better CPU utilization.
    • Supports automatic updates for Debian packages, Flatpak, and Nix.
    • Default remote desktop, RDP.
    • New user icon.
    • Easier screenshot and screen recording with the PrtScr button.

Unfortunately, there are no accent color options like in Ubuntu (probably to maintain Pop!_OS's distinctive teal blue color).

How to Upgrade

If you're using Pop!_OS before version 22.04, you'll automatically get an update notification in Settings > OS Upgrade & Recovery.

Or through the terminal, type:

sudo apt update

sudo apt full-upgrade

If prompted, enter your password. Once done, type:

pop-upgrade release upgrade

Select Y and press Enter. Your system will restart, and the upgrade process will begin. Wait until it restarts and returns to the login screen. Check your Pop!_OS.

Fresh install

To install from scratch or perform a fresh install, first download the image/ISO from Pop!_OS. Then, choose download at the top and select the image/ISO according to your hardware.
